For some of us Summer is sliding quickly out of view, hiding behind a new blanket of golden leaves and damp days. For others, the sun is still blasting its final force before finally surrendering to cooler ways. After so much heat with endless sunny days our skin is left feeling dehydrated. With the winter months ahead excessive use of heaters and fires can also cause our skin to dry out. It is important to now replenish and restore moisture and keep your skin supple for the upcoming months. I find the best technique is to whip up some home made oils, switching them up from time to time. Lather yourself in oil before bed and let it sink deep into the skin, leaving you supple and smooth.
Here is a recipe for a soothing skin oil:
4 tsp almond oil
4 tsp sunflower oil
4 tsp coconut oil
4 tsp grapeseed oil
2 Tsp avocado oil
2 tsp wheatgerm oil
10 drops Geranium essential oil
10 drops Bergamot essential oil
10 drops Lavender essential oil
10 drops Cypress essential oil
Blend the base oils wit the essential oils. Store in a dark glass bottle with air tight lid, avoid sunlight exposure. This should keep up to 6 months.
This relaxing mix of aromatherapy oils mixed with vegetable oils makes a nice blend of skin nourishment to help restore suppleness and maximize protection from moisture loss. Lavender is soothing, bergamot uplifting, cypress is calming and geranium for its floral notes.
*always test on a small patch of skin to make sure you have no sensitivity to essential oils.
