When browsing the supermarket shelves for natural house hold cleaners you may be surprised to know that some of the big brand names which claim to be environmentally friendly and non-toxic actually have some pretty awful ingredients in them...it is really quite deceptive. One particular item on the list is fragrance, which may seem harmless as an ingredient because it seems familiar to you. Let me ask, do you know what fragrance stands for when listed on a bottle? Arn't you curious to know what they mean by that? The reason they just stick with the generic word is because it can hide up to 14 chemical based ingredients. These have been linked to hormone disrupters, allergic reactions, even cancer and worse, 80% of them have not been tested for human safety.

My solution is to D-I-Y it. Making your own house hold cleaners is great fun, it takes a few basic ingredients; which you should always have in the home anyway. I have found them to be very effective and the aroma from the essential oils leaves my home feeling beautiful, fresh and clean.

My first cleaning recipe for you is an easy all purpose cleaner. It only uses three ingredients, Hydrogen Peroxide, Water and Essential oils. Hydrogen Peroxide (3%) is a common medicine cabinet staple which can kill bacteria, mold, mildew, and fungus. It is listed with the Environmental Protection Agency as a sterilizer. It can be used to disinfect all your surfaces in the kitchen and bathroom, remove stains, and even to clean mirrors and stainless steel. However, on wood  & glass surfaces I prefer to use something else, which will be another post... A lot of essential oils are known for their antibacterial, antifungal, antiseptic, and germicidal properties. I love adding essential oils to a DIY cleaner to further enhance its effectiveness. The fun part is you can try out a variety of different ones to perfect your best cleaning scent.
